The prototype Reppu, which was developed as a successor to the Zero Fighter, did not yield satisfactory results due to a lack of engine output, and there was a risk that development would be discontinued in the summer of 1945. At this point, Mitsubishi decided to replace it with an in-house engine, which they had insisted on from the beginning of development. Two months later, a flight test was conducted and a significant performance improvement was confirmed, giving rise to hopes for mass production. However, due to the deterioration of the war situation, these test aircraft could not be fully developed, and due to repeated air raids, mass production was far from possible, and this aircraft ended the war as a "phantom fighter".
