The Kosei Line, which has been licensed by JR West, runs from Yamashina Station in Kyoto Prefecture to Omi-Shiotsu Station in Shiga Prefecture, and as the name suggests, it runs along the west shore of Lake Biwa, connecting the Kansai region with the Hokuriku region.
The line, which opened between Yamashina and Omi-Shiotsu on July 20, 1974, will mark its 50th anniversary in July 2024.
The 113 series is a DC commuter train that was introduced in 1963.
The 113 series 700 series was newly introduced to the Kosei Line when it opened, and is designed to be cold and snow resistant, as it runs along the snowy west shore of Lake Biwa.
In addition, the train has been equipped with air conditioning and unit sash side windows since its manufacture, and since destination displays have been installed on the sides since its introduction, the side sign holders have been omitted.
